The Web Design Industries Dirty Little Secret
You want to know a secret of the Industry?
You don’t need no $5000 website! The Web Design industry has done a good job snowing small businesses into thinking they need an all out web site with Flash animations and Java Script. It’s how they make their money.
Truth is, you don’t need any of that. In fact, Search Engines cannot read Flash or Javascript code, so these two things can actually hurt the performance of your web site.
If you want to impress your friends and family, sure, shuck out the big bucks for one of those websites. If on the other hand, you want to a web site that is optimized to move up in the Search Engines, forget about those overpriced web sites.
As a small business owner, your website should do a few things to be successful.
- Be Search Engine Optimized so the search engines will place it higher in the organic rankings.
- Once ranked high in the Search Engines, it should be able to convert the traffic into Buyers. No fancy flash movie or Javascript is going to do that for you. You can have all the traffic in the World, but if they don’t click to buy something or call you, then you’ve wasted your money.
Take a look at some of the biggest names in retail. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Target, I could go on. They can afford to have the fanciest web sites on the Internet. But they don’t.
You know why?
Because they aren’t about to risk distracting their web site visitors with a Flash Movie, songs or other garbage. They want their visitors to order products and services from their websites. That’s why they’re simple in design and convert like crazy. They’ve already spent the big bucks on finding out how to turn visitors into Buyers. You don’t have to go and reinvet the wheel!
The websites I design and build are simple in nature and high converting. I’ve been an Internet Marketer as well as a Small Business owner for many years. I learned early on that in order to make money off the Internet, I had to convert Visitors into Buyers.
The last thing I want to do is have them distracted by a bunch of needless graphics and risk them forgetting why the came to my web site in the first place!
I use WordPress for the majority of my sites. While many think of WordPress as a blogging platform, it’s also a very powerful Content Management System (CMS). Not only that, but Search Engines like Google love sites build on WordPress and I find getting WordPress sites ranked in the Search Engines is a little easier when the site is based on the WordPress platform.
Not all web sites are right for WordPress. That’s why I can also build attractive, yet very functional sites based on CSS and HTML.
